Oak Galls are growths created by the Oak tree when a Gall Wasp lays its eggs inside a bud. When the wasp matures its burrows out of the gall, leaving a single hole. Oak gall ink is black and survives in some of Ireland's oldest ancient manuscripts. Oak galls found by the artist while walking in Loch Hyne Woods 2019
